AL-WADIAH – SABA
The Security and Protection Battalion at the al-Wadiah land port foiled an attempt to smuggle 4,925 Captagon narcotic pills, which were on their way to the territory of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a statement received by the Yemen's News Agency (Saba), the battalion’s leadership explained that the seizure took place during routine inspection procedures at the port.
Security personnel became suspicious of an incoming vehicle, and after subjecting it to a thorough search, the quantity was found professionally concealed in an attempt to disguise it and bypass security checkpoints.
The statement confirmed that the seized pills were secured in accordance with approved legal procedures, and those involved were referred to the competent authorities to complete investigations and take the necessary legal measures against them.
It noted that preliminary investigations indicate that most of the drug shipments seized at the port originate from areas under the control of Houthi militias, pointing out that the militias rely on drug trafficking as one of the sources of funding for their activities, posing a threat to the national security of neighboring countries and the stability of the region.
The battalion leadership affirmed its continued vigilance and efforts to combat drug smuggling and strengthen security measures in a way that contributes to protecting society and safeguarding the security of land ports.
