The National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights carried out two field visits on Tuesday to the State Security branch and the Military Security Department in Marib governorate as part of its oversight mandate.
During its meeting with the leadership of the State Security branch, the commission reviewed a number of complaints and cases under investigation, examined the legal procedures applied to detainees, and assessed the grounds for their detention. Discussions also focused on safeguarding public freedoms, preventing arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance, and ensuring access to justice in line with national legislation and relevant international conventions.
The commission’s team received a briefing from Branch Director Brigadier Naji Hatarum and his deputy Brigadier Ahmed Hanshal on the legal and humanitarian conditions of detention facilities, the total number of detainees, and the procedures followed in handling their cases. Officials responded to inquiries raised by the commission’s representatives.
