ADEN – SABA
Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism in the Caretaker Government Muammar al-Eryani held the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia fully responsible for the recent decisions issued by the UN Department of Safety and Security and the World Food Program to terminate the contracts of their employees in the capital Sanaa and other areas under the militia's control.
In a press statement, al-Eryani affirmed that these decisions were a direct result of systematic campaigns carried out by the Houthi militia against the United Nations and its agencies, accompanied by repressive practices that included kidnappings, enforced disappearances and arbitrary arrests targeting humanitarian workers.
Al-Eryani explained that international organizations have continued to operate in a hostile environment imposed by the Houthi militia, which has engaged in intimidation, blackmail and restrictions against staff, while systematically undermining the principles of neutrality and independence that humanitarian work is based on.
This is part of the militia’s efforts to impose control over organizational activities, exploit humanitarian work as a tool of political pressure and use it as a source of illicit funding to serve its coup agenda, he said.
He renewed his emphasis that protecting local staff is a legal and institutional obligation borne by the United Nations, calling on it to address the situation of its employees who were laid off in Sanaa and other militia-controlled areas.
These employees face extremely dangerous humanitarian and security conditions amid strict restrictions, including forced house arrest, travel bans, and the continued detention of dozens of staff members who have been held under arbitrary arrest for years.
