Yemeni Government Welcomes EU Designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as Terrorist Organization
[29/01/2026 06:16]

ADEN – SABA
The Government of the Republic of Yemen has welcomed the decision issued by the European Union to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

The government considered the designation an important step in the right direction to deter one of the most dangerous sources of instability and insecurity in the region, and the direct threat this entity poses to regional and international peace and security.

In a statement, the government affirmed that this decision reflects an advanced European understanding of the destructive role played by the IRGC over many years through fueling armed conflicts, systematically supporting groups and militias operating outside national state institutions, threatening international waterways, and undermining the foundations of global stability and security.

In this context, the Yemeni government stressed that the terrorist Houthi militias are nothing more than one of the direct military arms of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and that their project—based on violence, coups, and the imposition of a fait accompli by force—represents a clear extension of this destabilizing role.

This includes targeting civilians, commercial shipping and maritime navigation, and obstructing regional and international peace efforts.

The Yemeni government called on the European Union to take a similar and decisive step by designating the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization, in line with this decision, European laws and legislation, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, in a manner that contributes to cutting off the sources of funding for these militias, deterring their aggressive behavior, and strengthening opportunities for a just and sustainable peace in Yemen and the region.

The government emphasized that the path to security and stability in the region begins with ending the policy of impunity for entities that sponsor and manage cross-border armed militias, supporting the national state and its legitimate institutions and respecting the unity and sovereignty of states and the integrity of their territories.

The Yemeni government also renewed its full commitment to working closely with the international community, led by the European Union, to achieve peace, combat terrorism, protect international navigation, and build a safe and stable future for the peoples of the region.
