[24/01/2026 05:14]

SOCOTRA – SABA
The first batch of the petroleum derivatives grant provided through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen has arrived in Socotra Archipelago Governorate.

The grant is designated to operate power generation stations in the districts of Hadibo, Qalansiyah, Mory and Alamah, and will later include various power plants across the governorates of the Republic.

The arrival of the petroleum derivatives grant, which reached Socotra Governorate yesterday, Friday, comes as part of the package of development and economic support recently announced by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This package includes 28 development projects and initiatives with a total value of 1.9 billion Saudi riyals, in support of economic recovery efforts and the improvement of basic services in Yemen.

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen had signed an agreement with the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy to purchase petroleum derivatives from the Yemen Oil Company (PetroMasila), with the aim of supplying more than 70 power generation stations across various governorates.

This contributes to strengthening the capacities of Yemeni institutions, supporting the stability of the electricity sector, ensuring the continuity of services, and operating vital national facilities.

The total quantity of petroleum derivatives provided under this grant amounts to approximately 339 million liters of diesel and mazut, valued at USD 81.2 million, to operate power stations throughout all governorates.

This is expected to positively reflect on improving the level of services provided to citizens and enhancing the reliability of electrical power in hospitals, health centers, schools, roads, airports, and ports, in addition to supporting economic and commercial activity.

Previously, the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen provided several petroleum derivative grants, including a grant in 2018 valued at USD 180 million, a grant in 2021 valued at USD 422 million, and a grant in 2022 valued at USD 200 million, in addition to the current grant for 2026, as part of ongoing support to enhance the stability of Yemen’s electricity sector.
