MUKALLA – SABA

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadramout Salem al-Khanbashi discussed Wednesday with the Head of Security and Safety Advisors at the United Nations Office in Yemen George Torres and his accompanying delegation, ways to enhance cooperation and joint security coordination to ensure the safety and protection of UN staff and international organizations operating in the governorate.

During the meeting, attended by Deputy Governor Hassan al-Jilani, al-Khanbashi emphasized the importance of re-coordinating security procedures across the governorate and placing them under a unified operations room, in a step up that would help unify efforts, coordinate security, and strengthen stability.

Al-Khanbashi stressed the need to bring all security and military formations under the leadership of the governorate’s security committee to secure the work and movements of UN staff and international organizations, giving this responsibility the full weight it deserves.

For his part, the Head of Security and Safety Advisors at the UN Office in Yemen praised the efforts of the local authority in Hadramout to re-establish security and stability, affirming the importance of coordination between local, security, and military authorities and relevant entities.

George Torres expressed the United Nations’ intention to expand its activities in liberated areas and avoid what occurred in areas under the control of the Houthi terrorist militias, in a way that ensures the implementation of relief, humanitarian, and development projects, in addition to facilitating and coordinating flights to and from Hadramout airports for UN staff.
