Masam Teams Remove More Than 532,000 Landmines and Explosive Remnants Since Launch of Project in Yemen

Masam Project for Mine Clearance has removed more than 532,000 landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) since its launch, according to official figures released on Sunday.

The project’s Operations Room announced that Masam field teams cleared 2,754 landmines, UXO, and explosive devices between the beginning of January and Jan. 16, as part of ongoing efforts to rid Yemeni territory of war remnants.

The items removed during this period included 2,515 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 224 anti-tank mines, nine anti-personnel mines, and six improvised explosive devices across several mine-affected areas.

In a statement issued by the Masam Media Office, the project said its teams removed 837 landmines and explosive remnants during the past week alone. During the third week of January, teams cleared 729 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 104 anti-tank mines, three improvised explosive devices, and one additional anti-tank mine.

The statement added that since the beginning of January 2026, Masam teams have cleared an estimated 1,078,241 square meters of land, as part of efforts aimed at reducing the risks posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance to civilians.
