Presidency of Republic: South Transitional Council's restrictions on movement grave violation of constitution, Riyadh Agreement
[04/01/2026 01:39]
ADEN-SABA
An authorized official at the Office of the Presidency of the Republic stated that the State leadership is closely following the measures imposed by military formations affiliated with the South Transitional Council (STC), which consist of restricting the movement of citizens coming from several governorates to the temporary capital Aden and preventing them from passing through the main entrances of the city.

The official confirmed in a statement learned by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that these measures constitute a clear violation of the constitution and a blatant breach of the transitional phase references, mainly the Riyadh Agreement, which stipulates adherence to full citizenship rights for all Yemeni people, the rejection of regional discrimination and the protection of civilians from any practices that affect their basic rights.

He official pointed out that imposing restrictions on freedom of movement and detaining travelers including families, patients and students, constitutes a violation of national laws and international charters related to human rights, undermines social peace and exacerbates the humanitarian suffering amid the difficult economic and living conditions created by the coup of the Iranian regime backed Houthi terrorist militias.

The official added that "the Office of the Presidency of the Republic has also received reliable reports about arrests and kidnappings incidents in the temporary capital Aden, committed under the directives of the leadership of the Security Belt Forces, which affiliated with the STC in the city, in a serious violation of the right to personal freedom and a grave breach of the legal guarantees that prohibit detention outside the framework of the judiciary and the competent prosecution".

He called on the STC to immediately and unconditionally end all restrictions imposed on citizens' movement, respect the competencies of state institutions and avoid any unilateral actions that could harm public interests and contest the exclusive authority of the state.

The official confirmed that the state will take the necessary measures to protect civilians, ensure freedom of movement, maintain social peace, and uphold the rule of law within the scope of its constitutional authority.
