Yemen Calls for Addressing Roots behind Migration, Strengthening International Support for Government
[18/12/2025 06:08]

ADEN - SABA
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has participated in a specialized event to discuss migration issues in Yemen, organized on the occasion of the International Day of Migrants by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate, the Head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Ambassador Muthanna al-Amiri, confirmed in his speech during his participation via video call that irregular migration has become one of the most serious humanitarian and security challenges facing Yemen, in light of long years of conflict and deteriorating economic conditions.

He pointed out that migrant flows across the Yemeni coast take place through organized smuggling networks that do not take into account human lives, which has led to repeated loss of life.

He explained that the government, despite limited capabilities, continued its efforts to save lives, combat smuggling and human trafficking and protect migrants.

He affirmed that Yemen cannot confront this phenomenon alone, and that sharing the burdens with the international community has become an urgent necessity.

Ambassador Al-Amiri called for addressing the root causes of migration, and strengthening international support for the government, including supporting safe voluntary return, supporting shelter centers, and strengthening the capabilities of the Coast Guard, which contributes to reducing this complex humanitarian phenomenon.
