ADEN – SABA
Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh met Saturday with Zhao Cheng, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Yemen.
The two parties discussed ongoing health cooperation and explore ways to enhance it in line with national health system priorities.
Dr. Buhaibeh highlighted China’s support to Yemen’s health sector in recent years, including funding for health projects, deployment of medical missions, and provision of equipment that has strengthened facility capacity and ensured continuity of essential services.
He emphasized the need to deepen and sustain bilateral health relations, underscoring Yemen’s priority to expand training for health personnel—particularly in epidemic surveillance, rapid emergency response, and health risk management—as well as support efforts to modernize digital infrastructure and improve data systems.
The Minister called on China to broaden the deployment of medical teams to underserved governorates, including the Socotra Archipelago, and to support hospital rehabilitation projects and long-term medical scholarships.
Zhao Cheng affirmed China’s readiness to continue supporting Yemen’s health sector in line with Ministry of Health priorities, noting his country’s interest in expanding technical assistance, capacity-building programs, and expert missions to strengthen Yemen’s capabilities in health emergencies and primary care.
