Yemen has affirmed that the Iran-backed Houthi militia poses a direct threat to regional peace and security and to international navigation, saying the group is a tool used to undermine Yemen’s sovereignty and stability, disrupt basic services, and obstruct the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

Strategic Dialogue Conference underscores need to support capacities of Ministry of Health

The Participants in the Strategic Dialogue Conference for the health sector in Yemen highlighted the need of financing and supporting the capacities of the Ministry of Health in the areas of surveillance, preparedness and emergency response, improving institutional leadership and accountability, developing organizational functions and preparing a sectorial strategy based on evidence in coordination with the international community.

The Conference organized by the Ministry of Public Health and Population at the temporary capital Aden, in partnership with the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development.

The final statement issued by the Conference highlighted the need for working on improving the efficiency and alignment of international support through the agreed establishment of the 'International Group for Coordination and Support of the Health Sector in Yemen,' enhancing resilience against funding reductions and operational challenges and ensuring fair and equitable access to high-quality health services for the most vulnerable groups.

The representatives of major international donors, United Nations agencies and health and development organizations contributed to the Conference deliberations.

The discussions focused on the sectorial vision of the Ministry of Public Health and the identification of national priorities based on the current health context.
