Yemen stresses importance of continuing enhance capabilities to achieve regional security
[20/11/2025 07:12]

VIENNA - SABA
The Republic of Yemen is participating in the meetings of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which were attended by a delegation headed by the Yemeni Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Vienna, Haitham Shuja'aldin.

Ambassador Shuja'aldin delivered our country's speech in which he reiterated Yemen's demand to stop Iranian interference through its support for the terrorist Houthi militia.

He stressed that no political settlement will be achieved in Yemen unless these interference stop, in addition to the importance of the international community's continued support for Yemen to enhance its ability to play its role in protecting regional security and stability and protecting maritime navigation in the Red Sea and vital waterways

Ambassador Shoja'aldin expressed deep concern over the Director General's report's failure to conduct inspections of nuclear facilities since June 2025, and that the Agency is awaiting Iran's submission of reports on the status of these facilities under its NPT Safeguards Agreement so that the Agency can verify them.

He also pointed out that more than four years have passed since Iran stopped implementing the Additional Protocol, which raises serious concerns, especially since Iran is the only non-nuclear-weapon state that continues to produce large quantities of highly enriched uranium, which doubles the importance of its full commitment to relevant international standards.

He stressed the need for Iran, in accordance with the provisions of its safeguards agreement under the Non-Proliferation Treaty, to submit a comprehensive report without delay, including a complete inventory of nuclear materials, accompanied by an updated questionnaire detailing the status of these damaged nuclear materials and facilities.

He also drew attention to the fact that enabling the Agency to have immediate and effective access to these facilities is a basic condition for carrying out its verification tasks, in accordance with the legal obligations arising from the aforementioned agreement, and in a way that enhances transparency and establishes confidence in the international safeguards system.

Ambassador Shoja'aldin stressed that it has become important to take steps to formulate a new binding agreement for Iran, which includes removing all concerns related to Iran's nuclear program, its ballistic missile program, and its interference in the affairs of the countries of the region.
