Deputy Minister of Planning Discusses Food Insecurity and Malnutrition with UN Agencies

Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nizar Basuhayb, met with representatives from the World Food Programme (WFP) and UNICEF to discuss joint efforts to address food insecurity and malnutrition in the country.

The meeting, which included WFP Aden Director Leila Ahadi and UNICEF Yemen Acting Nutrition Chief Dr. Salem Muftah, focused on improving food security and nutrition, supporting vulnerable families, and exploring alternatives to address malnutrition through local food industries and partnerships.

Dr. Basuhayb highlighted the urgent need for increased funding to address food insecurity, citing a decline in donor support, and emphasized the government's priority on food security as a foundation for stability and sustainable development.

The UN representatives reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Yemen's efforts to reduce malnutrition rates and improve food security through technical assistance, advisory support, and collaborative programming.
