Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya Zindani met Saturday with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.

The two parties reviewed the historic and robust relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen and develop them across various fields in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two friendly countries.

During the meeting, held on the sidelines of his participation in the 21st session of the Regional Security Forum (Manama Dialogue), Minister Zindani expressed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for the United Kingdom’s supportive stance toward the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, and for the assistance Britain provides in humanitarian and development fields, which has had a tangible impact in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people caused by the Houthi coup and the ongoing war.

He also welcomed the United Kingdom’s support for efforts to strengthen the capabilities of the Yemeni Coast Guard and maritime security, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation in this vital area given its role as a cornerstone for the security of navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and for combating illicit activities that threaten regional and international security.

Minister Zindani referred to the economic and administrative reforms being implemented by the Yemeni government under the directives of the Presidential Leadership Council, noting the progress made in stabilizing the national currency, steps taken to increase public revenues, and improvements in expenditure efficiency, despite the existing challenges and the exceptional circumstances the country is going through.

He pointed out to the nature of the threats posed by the Houthi militia to regional peace and security, including their continued threat to international navigation in the Red Sea and their targeting of commercial vessels and oil tankers.

For her part, the British Foreign Secretary affirmed her country’s continued support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, backing their efforts to achieve political, economic, and security stability, and the importance of continuing ongoing reforms and the government’s efforts to promote development and improve living conditions.
