The Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Maj. General Aidaroos al-Zubaidi arrived today, Tuesday, in Moscow on an official visit during which he holds high-level meetings with a number of the Russian officials.

Once he arrived in Moscow, he held talks with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and a number of senior officials at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The talks dealt with historical bilateral relations between the Republic of Yemen and the Russian Federation, ways to further develop prospects of the bilateral cooperation in different fields to serve mutual interests of the two countries.

The conversations also covered the political, economic, humanitarian and security developments in our country, as well as the ongoing regional and international efforts to bring the conflict to its end and re-establish stability in the region.

Maj. General al-Zubaidi underscored the important role Russia can play in contributing toward supporting the peace efforts aiming to re-establish stability in the region through joint action and coordination. In this context, he welcomed the Russian friends' intention to open their embassy in the temporary capital Aden shortly.

During his talks with Lavrov, Maj. General al-Zubaidi stressed the importance of de-escalation as prerequisite for any genuine peace intentions, restating that any comprehensive political solution must be based on respecting our fellow citizens' aspirations.

For his part, the Minister Lavrov stated that his country is interested in supporting peace efforts in Yemen, boost security and stability in the region.

From the Yemeni side, the meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, Mohammed al-Ghaithi and the Chairman of the Joint Security and Military Committee Maj. General Haitham Taher.

On the Russian side: Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, Deputy Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department, Ambassador Maxim Maksimov, Head of the Gulf Section of the Middle East and North Africa Department, Yulia Lapshina, Advisor of the Middle East and North Africa Department Alexey Titov and First Secretary of the Middle East and North Africa Department Rafael Enikiyev.
