Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen Ahmed al-Maabaqi and Deputy Minister of Finance Hani Wahab discussed with representatives of the Statistics Department of the International Monetary Fund (STA), headed by the Fund's Deputy Director of Statistics, Carol Baker, enhancing aspects of cooperation and joint coordination, and technical support needs.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of the International Monetary Fund continuing to provide technical support and capacity building in the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank in the temporary capital, Aden, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances at the current stage.
The meeting noted the technical support provided through the Statistics Department of the International Monetary Fund during the past period, as this contributed to enhancing the capacity building of the financial sector and helping to enhance spending efficiency, improve governance, enhance transparency and achieve the principle of accountability.
The meeting stressed continued support for achieving the objectives of the economic recovery plan, fulfilling commitments within the Article 4 consultations and assisting the Ministry of Finance in preparing a plan for the gradual transition from the 2001 government finance statistics to the 2014 government finance statistics.
