DOHA-SABA
Yemen participated in the 6th Islamic Conference of Labor Ministers, held in Doha, Qatar, with a delegation led by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Mohammed Al-Zaouri.
The conference, themed "Local Experiences, Global Achievements: Success Stories in the Islamic World," brought together over 50 Islamic countries, international organizations, experts, and civil society representatives to discuss enhancing cooperation in labor and social development.
In his address, Dr. Al-Zaouri highlighted Yemen's severe humanitarian and economic crisis caused by the ongoing Houthi war. He stated that the conflict has led to devastating consequences, including a significant rise in unemployment, with youth unemployment exceeding sixty percent, and the halt of operations for seventy percent of economic enterprises.
Dr. Al-Zaouri emphasized that more than seventy percent of Yemen's population now lives below the poverty line, and approximately four point five million people have been internally displaced.
He stressed the need for investment in human capital to achieve sustainable development and called for support from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in areas like job training, employment, and worker protection.
