A Yemeni rights group reveals over 1,660 annual suicides in Houthi-controlled areas, citing oppression, poverty, hopelessness, unpaid salaries, fear of arrest, and family abuse as main causes.
The report states that 78% of cases occur in Houthi areas, where war has driven thousands to despair due to economic hardship, social isolation, and cyber bullying - especially against women and girls, who account for 22% of suicide cases due to online harassment.
With only 60 psychiatrists remaining in Yemen and 80% of mental health centers closed, 7 million Yemenis suffer from mental disorders.
The group blames the devastating situation on war and calls for a national mental health program and urgent international intervention.
