Yemen has affirmed that the Iran-backed Houthi militia poses a direct threat to regional peace and security and to international navigation, saying the group is a tool used to undermine Yemen’s sovereignty and stability, disrupt basic services, and obstruct the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

PM contributes to conclusion of Article IV Consultations between Yemeni government, IMF

Prime Minister Salem Bin Braik contributed today, Thursday, to the conclusion of the Article IV consultations between the Yemeni government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which resumed after an eleven-year hiatus.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) also contributed to the consultations which held in the Jordanian capital Amman.

The Prime Minister delivered a keynote speech in which he expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the IMF mission, the government team and the CBY to carry out constructive and fruitful consultations, centered on assessing economic and financial performance, reviewing the ongoing reform process and future needs to strengthen stability and recovery.

Bin Braik restated that the government, despite the challenges, is committed to go on the ongoing economic reforms saying" We hope that these consultations will serve as a starting point for a broader and deeper partnership with the IMF, as well as financial and international institutions".

"We rely on your support to enable the government to implement its priorities in economic reform and improve the standard of living services for citizens", he added.

The head of the IMF mission to Yemen Astra Ruiz praised the progress the government has made in several tracks of economic and administrative reform, as well as the level of transparency and cooperation demonstrated by the government team during the consultations.
