BRUSSELS - SABA
The European Union (EU) strongly condemned the attack by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias on the commercial ship (MINERVAGRACHT), which flies the Dutch flag in the Gulf of Aden.
In a statement issued today, Thursday, the EU said "The attack endangered the lives of the crew, who were forced to evacuate the ship with the assistance of naval vessels from the 'Operation Atalanta' mission, which operates under a strictly defensive mandate to protect the freedom of navigation."
The EU stressed that it is very necessary for these attacks, which violate international law, threaten regional peace and stability and directly affect global trade and freedom of navigation as a global public interest, to stop, stressing that these attacks exacerbate the difficult humanitarian situation in Yemen and undermine prospects for peace.
The EU also underscored the need for full respect for United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2768 of 2025.
