Humanitarian partners and relevant authorities in Taiz Governorate have discussed confronting the risks of the spread of cholera and the necessary treatments to reduce the consequences resulting from the spread of this disease among citizens, interventions in many sectors in water, sanitation, health and hygiene, the challenges and difficulties they face and ways to facilitate this humanitarian mission.
During the meeting, which was organized by the Planning and International Cooperation Office in the governorate and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and attended by directors of the Public Health and Population, Water and Environment, and Finance offices, the governorate's Undersecretary for Health Affairs, Dr. Ilan Abdel Haq, stressed the importance of this meeting to confront the risks of the spread of cholera and severe drought, control epidemics that threaten the lives of individuals and communities, and ensure a sustainable healthy environment.
The governorate's deputy praised the humanitarian interventions of humanitarian partners from international, local and international organizations in supporting the local authority in confronting humanitarian needs and alleviating the suffering of citizens.
She confirmed that the local authority will continue to provide all necessary support, assistance and facilities to international and local organizations and partners in humanitarian and development work in implementing its projects.
For his part, the Director of the Office of Planning and International Cooperation, Nabil Jamel, explained that the aim of the meeting is to mobilize funding and emergency interventions to confront the water crisis, limit the spread of cholera, and the urgent needs of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund, and to come up with a matrix of urgent projects in many emergency aspects of water, environmental sanitation, confronting epidemics, and the needs of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund.
The Director of the Health and Population Office in the Governorate Dr. Fahd al-Nadhari, also touched on the health situation and health risks facing the governorate.
