the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Badhib held talks today, Thursday, in the Jordanian capital Amman with Economic Advisor Dirk Jan and Head of the Political Affairs Department at the Office of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Roxana Bazargan over the UN efforts to establish peace and the current economic situations.

Badhib appreciated the significant role of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy and his efforts to bring peace, affirming the Yemeni government's support for all efforts aimed to end the war and make fair and sustainable peace that ends the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The Minister blamed the Iranian regime backed terrorist Houthi militias for blocking peace efforts and proposals, prolonging the Yemeni people's ordeal.

He also touched on the repeated attacks by the Houthi militias on commercial ships, the threat to the security of the Red Sea and international navigation, and the direct impact of this on the national economy, especially after targeting oil ships in 2022, which led to depriving the state's public treasury of more than 65 percent of its revenues.

Badhib underscored the importance of information technology sector as a strategic pillar for advancing national economy, its vital role in creating job opportunities, enhancing service efficiency for both public and private sectors as well as fostering an innovative environment.

"It is very important to establish effective partnerships with the international community to support investment in digital infrastructure and develop national competencies in this vital field", he stressed.

The Minister confirmed that the government is currently working on the urgent priorities plan for the years 2025 and 2026, which aims to achieve financial sustainability, banking stability, control inflation and encourage the private sector to invest.

The UN official affirmed that the international community stands with Yemen during this critical phase, underlining the importance of joint efforts between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and donor countries to boost economic recovery opportunities and create conditions for lasting peace.
