Local Secretary of Lahj discusses with Dutch Ambassador enhancing humanitarian, development cooperation

The Secretary-General of the Local Council in Lahj Awadh Al-Salahi discussed with the Dutch Ambassador to Yemen, Jeanette Seppen ways to enhance aspects of humanitarian and development cooperation.

During the meeting, which was attended by a number of directors of executive offices in the governorate, al-Salahi praised the strong relations between Yemen and the Netherlands and the important lever this partnership represents to support development and relief efforts.

He appreciated the Netherlands' firm humanitarian stances towards the Yemeni people in light of the current challenges.

Al-Salahi touched on the extent of the suffering experienced by the people of Lahj Governorate as a result of the war and its repercussions.

He Pointed out to the devastating effects of recent floods and rains that washed away roads, buried wells and led to the collapse of homes and the loss of thousands of residents' sources of livelihood.

Al-Salahi stressed that the leadership of the local authority in Lahj Governorate is doing its utmost to reduce the burdens despite the limited capabilities.

He Called on the Kingdom of the Netherlands and sisterly and friendly countries to provide more support, especially in the areas of caring for the displaced, whose number has exceeded 12,000, as well as the urgent need for infrastructure projects and basic services.

For her part, the Dutch Ambassador stressed her country's keenness to expand its development and humanitarian partnerships in Lahj Governorate.

Considering that her visit represents an opportunity to learn on the ground about the conditions of the governorate.

In addition, the Dutch Ambassador visited Ibn Khaldoun General Hospital in the city of al-Hawtah and met with the Director of the Public Health and Population Office in Lahj Governorate Dr. Khaled Jaber and the Acting Director of the Hospital Dr. Shamsan al-Muntasir, and was briefed on the hospital's needs.
