European Commission announces 40 million euros in urgent aid to Yemen
[25/09/2025 05:21]

BRUSSELS - SABA
The European Commission announced today, Thursday, the provision of an additional 40 million euros (47 million dollars) in urgent humanitarian aid to address the escalating crisis and help prevent the risk of famine in Yemen.

The European Commission stated in a press release that "the new funding will be directed towards providing urgent food and health services, prioritizing the areas which are most at risk of famine."

The statement added that the European Union aerobridge for humanitarian aid has finally delivered over 432 tons of medicines and lifesaving supplies, which have been distributed through 11 humanitarian partners to affected families across Yemen.
The European Commission reported that more than 19.5 million people are in need of humanitarian aid, including 17.1 million suffering from critical levels of food insecurity, while about two million children are malnourished, including half a million in critical condition.

It underlined that the health system in Yemen is facing near-total collapse, with the spread of diseases and the closure of many medical facilities due to a lack of funding.

The commission pointed out that years of war, economic collapse and climate shocks have left more than half of the population of Yemen facing severe food insecurity. It clarified that a large part of European humanitarian aid is provided through direct cash transfers to beneficiaries, as it is considered the most effective, efficient and dignified way to provide assistance.

The EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hajjah Habbib said that "the European Union is intensifying its support to provide food, treatment and care for those in greatest need," stressing that humanitarian aid should not be exploited, obstructed or held back.
