[17/09/2025 01:58]

RIYADH - SABA
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shaya Zindani met Wednesday with the European Union Ambassador to Yemen, Patrick Simonnet.

Minister Zindani expressed his gratitude to the European Union for the support announced during the Maritime Security Partnership Conference in Yemen, emphasizing the importance of EU contributions to support the Yemeni Coast Guard, which enhances regional stability.

He welcomed the United Nations' decision to move the role of the Resident Coordinator to the temporary capital, Aden, and urged all UN agencies, programs and organizations to prioritize this transition, reaffirming the government's commitment to ensuring the safety of its humanitarian workers.

The Foreign Minister stressed the need for collective action to punish the terrorist Houthi militias and to exert maximum political and economic pressure on them to compel a serious return to the negotiating table and to stop their evasion tactics and refusal of peace efforts.

He warned of the dangerous role the militias play in supporting terrorist groups in the Horn of Africa, as well as their involvement in arms smuggling and destabilizing the region.

Meanwhile, the EU Ambassador confirmed the Union's commitment to continue supporting Yemen in various fields, noting that achieving peace in Yemen is a strategic priority for the EU.

He stated that the EU will continue to coordinate its efforts with the Gulf Cooperation Council, the United Nations, and the international community to support the Yemeni government and assist in implementing economic reforms and enhancing stability.

Ambassador Simonnet also reiterated the EU's commitment to enhancing its support for Yemen in humanitarian and developmental aspects, affirming that the Union stands with Yemen in facing security challenges and places significant importance on protecting regional and international security.
