[16/09/2025 03:25]
RIYADH-SABA
A landmark international conference has underscored the critical importance of securing Yemen's coastal waters, unveiling a collaborative effort among nations to strengthen the country's maritime law enforcement capabilities.

The International Conference on Yemen Maritime Security Partnership, jointly organized by Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Yemen's government, drew participation from over 40 countries concerned about regional stability and global trade.

Key discussions centered on combating smuggling, piracy, and human trafficking in Yemeni waters, which pose significant threats to international shipping lanes, including the vital Bab al-Mandab strait and Red Sea passage.

Saudi Arabia pledged $4 million to support Yemen's Coast Guard, complemented by technical assistance from other nations for training, equipment, and capacity building.

A dedicated secretariat will oversee international cooperation, ensuring strategic resource allocation to upgrade Yemen's maritime security infrastructure.

Yemen's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Shaya Zindani, emphasized that maritime security is a national priority and shared responsibility, praising Saudi Arabia's efforts in hosting the conference and the UK's initiative to establish a technical support mechanism for Yemen.

The minister also commended Yemen's Coast Guard for its professionalism despite limited resources and challenging circumstances, urging the international community to increase financial and technical support.

Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, expressed his country's satisfaction with the partnership, highlighting its strategic importance for Yemen, the Red Sea region, and global trade.
