Yemen has affirmed that the Iran-backed Houthi militia poses a direct threat to regional peace and security and to international navigation, saying the group is a tool used to undermine Yemen’s sovereignty and stability, disrupt basic services, and obstruct the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

Dep. Transport Minister seeks EU's support for transport infrastructure

The Vice Minister of Transport Nasser al-Sharif met today, Tuesday, with the newly appointed Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Republic of Yemen Patrick Simonyi in the transitional capital Aden.

Aspects of joint of cooperation in transport was key point of the conversations.

Al-Sharif greatly valued the EU's significant contribution to the development drive in Yemen, underlining the need for greater partnership and cooperation with the EU.

" We're keenly seeking to establish strategic partnership and cooperation with the EU", he said.

He highlighted Yemen's need for the EU's support for the government's efforts aimed to improve the transport infrastructure, particularly the General Authority for Marine Affairs.

He also underscored the need for equipment and boats to control pollution, a laboratory for pollution testing and a monitoring station in order to address the environmental challenges caused by marine pollution from the sunken ships in the southern Red Sea as a result of the war triggered by the terrorist Houthi militias.

The EU Ambassador confirmed the EU's continued support for the government's efforts to make regarding maritime navigation routes through the 'Krimario' project to enhance the security of Red Sea ports.

He stated that the transport sector is a priority on the EU's upcoming agenda.
