[02/09/2025 05:54]

ADEN - SABA
Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Briek held a session of discussions with the head of the International Monetary Fund mission to Yemen, Ishtar Perez Ruiz, during which areas of existing cooperation between the government and the Fund were reviewed.

They discussed future plans to support the government's priorities and support its efforts in continuing comprehensive reforms.

The discussions, which was held via video call on Tuesday, with the participation of the Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund to Yemen Mohammad Jaber, dealt with what the technical and specialized teams had accomplished within the framework of the Article IV consultations, to evaluate the Yemeni economy and determine implementable priority policies, in addition to exploring emergency financing options and easy facilities — necessary to fill financial gaps and stimulate donor support.

The level of implementation of the program agreed upon within the framework of Article Four consultations was also evaluated, as were the proposed dates for holding joint meetings to review the reports and data submitted, in addition to mechanisms for intensifying effective cooperation to support the economic recovery plan and the Yemeni government's reform program, mobilizing support from international partners, and facilitating access to development financing and loans.

The Prime Minister reviewed the latest developments in the economic and financial situation in Yemen and the government reforms implemented in terms of monetary and financial policies, which contributed to improving the exchange rate of the national currency and reducing inflation.

He emphasized that the government, under the directives of the Presidential Leadership Council and in coordination with the Central Bank, is continuing to implement the comprehensive reform program as an irreversible national option, despite the challenges imposed by the exceptional circumstances and the humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the terrorist Houthi militia war.

For their part, IMF officials praised the government's efforts to implement reforms, and stressed their readiness to continue the partnership and provide the necessary technical advice, which would contribute to supporting the Yemeni economy and developing financial and monetary policies and to ensure the acceleration of the completion of Article IV consultations with the Yemeni government.
