Ministry of Planning Houthi terrorist militias' detention of United Nations employees
[02/09/2025 02:44]

ADEN - SABA
The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation has condemned the arbitrary and unacceptable detention carried out by the terrorist Houthi militias against a number of at least 11 United Nations employees.

The ministry also condemned targeting of World Food Program buildings by the militia and the confiscation of property belonging to the United Nations, in addition to attempts to storm other buildings belonging to it.

The ministry said in a statement, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), "This behavior constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the rules of work of the United Nations and undermines efforts to provide life-saving assistance in light of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen."
The ministry demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detained United Nations personnel, respect for the diplomatic and legal immunities granted to humanitarian workers in accordance with international law, and ensure that they are able to perform their duties without threat or obstacles.

The ministry promised the international and regional community to pressure the Houthi militias to release the detainees immediately, implement an immediate and transparent investigation into the storming and detention incident, and hold accountable those involved in these violations.

It stressed the need to put an end to this behavior that restricts workers in United Nations offices and the humanitarian field.

The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation reaffirmed its full support for the United Nations and its various agencies in moving their headquarters to the temporary capital, Aden, implementing their humanitarian and development tasks from the liberated areas, and working to ensure that aid reaches civilians in need safely and smoothly.
