Gulf Ministerial Council calls on donor countries to provide humanitarian, development support to Yemen
[01/09/2025 05:33]

Aden - Saba
The Gulf Ministerial Council has called on donor countries to provide humanitarian and development support to Yemen, enabling it to fulfill its obligations, achieve economic stability and strengthen the role of the Central Bank in Aden to support the national currency as the only legitimate monetary authority in Yemen.

In the final statement of the 165th Gulf Ministerial Meeting held in the State of Kuwait on Monday and chaired by the Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Chairman of the current session of the Ministerial Council, Abdullah al-Yahya, the Ministerial Council stressed the importance of maintaining maritime security and waterways, and confronting activities that threaten the security and stability of the region and the world, including targeting commercial ships and threatening maritime navigation lines and international trade.

The statement stressed the need to respect the right to maritime navigation, in accordance with the provisions of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.

The Council condemned the Houthi militias' sinking of the cargo ships «Magic Seas» and «Eternity Sea», the killing and loss of a number of their crew members, and the leakage of about (17) thousand metric tons of ammonium nitrate into the waters of the Red Sea, which threatens marine life there.

The Ministerial Council praised the announcement by the Yemeni government's National Resistance Forces that they were able to seize a 750-ton shipment of strategic weapons in the Red Sea that was on its way to the Houthi militias coming from Iran.

It Condemened the continued foreign interference in Yemen's internal affairs, support for terrorist groups, and the smuggling of military experts and weapons to Houthi militias, in clear violation of Security Council Resolutions 2216, 2231, and 2624.

The Ministerial Council reviewed the preparations for the International Conference on Food Security in Yemen, scheduled to be held at the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council on October 27-28, 2025, calling on all countries and international organizations to participate effectively in this conference.
