President al-Alimi: Houthi militia has become hopeless case as partner for peace
[27/08/2025 02:30]

RIYADH - SABA
Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi received Wednesday the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Abda Sharif.

He discussed with her bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the latest developments in local conditions, and updates related to international support programs for comprehensive reforms in the country.

He praised the British positions supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the government and the pivotal role played by the United Kingdom in supporting the Yemeni people in international forums, as a head to the Security Council.

He also commended the British humanitarian and developmental interventions, including support for financial stability, institutional building, as well as the proposed support to improve media content and counter misleading narratives regarding the Yemeni issue.

President al-Alimi addressed the level of progress in the comprehensive reform program and the serious steps taken by the government and the Central Bank in implementing the decisions of the Presidential Leadership Council and the economic recovery plan, which included the formation of budget and import regulation committees to enhance transparency, public revenues, and strengthen the position of the national currency.

The meeting also discussed the ongoing threats posed by the Houthi terrorist militias to international peace and security, with close support from the Iranian regime, including the increasing risks arising from the continued flow of Iranian weapons to the terrorist militias.

In this context, the President pointed out the growing security threats to international peace and security from the blatant cooperation of the Houthis with terrorist organizations, including the Somali al-Shabaab movement, as well as the continued use of the economy and banking transfers as a tool of war against Yemenis.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council emphasized the need for a more stringent international response to these threats, including expanding sanctions against the Houthi militias, asserting that the Houthi militias have become a hopeless case as a serious partner for peace.

Increasing pressure on the militia is the most realistic peaceful option to achieve peace and stability in Yemen and the region, said President al-Alimi.
