The Member of the Presidential Leadership Council(PLC) Abdul-Rahman al-Mahrami emphasized the importance of upgrading the security and technical capacities and preparedness of the Yemeni Coast Guard to be capable of dealing with the different threats, including the smuggling of the Iranian weapons to the terrorist Houthi militias, smuggling drugs, marine piracy and the activities of the terrorist groups.
He voiced his remark during his meeting today, Sunday, in the temporary capital Aden, with the head of the Coast Guard Authority Maj. General Khaled al-Qamali.
" The role of the Coast Guard forces is pivotal in protecting ports and maritime passages", he said.
General al-Qamli detailed al-Mahrami on the challenges the Coast Guard faced by, underlining the need to reinforce their capacities and train the personnel in order to be well-qualified and equipped to do their job effectively.
The conversations touched on the importance of the joint coordination with the regional and international parties to manage the maritime threats.
