The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya Zindani discussed today, Tuesday, with the British Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen Abda Sharif bilateral relations and cooperation.
Dr. Zindani sought for more British support greater partnership with the Yemeni government to establish security and stability in Yemen.
The talks also covered several issues of common, including the problem of irregular migration across the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden from the Horn of Africa to Yemen.
Zindani highlighted the humanitarian and security challenges associated with this illegal migration, underlining importance of enhancing coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and international partners to address the conditions of migrants and improve Yemen's capacity to deal with this problem.
The Foreign Minister expressed the Yemeni government's gratitude and appreciation for the contributions of the British government, especially what was recently announced within the framework of the technical support mechanism known as (TAFY), which was launched during the New York meeting.
He stated that this mechanism constitutes a constructive and important step, as it provides no less than 2.2 million pounds annually for the next three years to support the capacities of Yemeni government institutions, particularly in the areas of governance, capacity building and institutional reform
The British Ambassador reiterated the United Kingdom's commitment to support Yemen and its internationally recognized Yemeni government and work towards a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Yemeni crisis.
