[29/07/2025 02:46]

ADEN - SABA

Minister of Transport Dr. Abdulsalam Hamuaid discussed Tuesday with the World Bank's Senior Road and Transport Engineer, Dr. Abdulhakim al-Aghbari efforts to enhance collaboration and joint coordination between the two parties for implementing the national strategic study project for developing maritime, air, and land transport sectors.

The meeting, attended by Deputy Minister of Transport Nasser Sharif, the Ministry's Undersecretary for Ports Affairs Captain Ali Al-Sabhi and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Roads, Engineer Walid Redman, addressed the priorities of the transport sector, the technical and logistical support that the World Bank can provide to various transport sectors, and the necessary practical steps to execute the strategic study, contributing to the development of the transport sector and improving the infrastructure of land, maritime, and air transport across the republic.

The Minister of Transport emphasized that the ministry seeks to formulate a comprehensive national strategy that considers all levels of transport sectors and logistical support, aiming to achieve a long-term vision for recovery that takes into account regional and international integration.

He stressed the importance of partnership with the World Bank in advancing the transport sector and the role the bank plays in supporting the government's efforts to rebuild and modernize vital infrastructure, including the road network.

Minister Humaid highlighted the importance of benefiting from previous studies, especially those completed as part of regional connectivity projects, such as the railway project between Yemen and Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as well as studies conducted in Beirut under the Arab Mashreq Initiative, emphasizing the need to update them in line with current developments.

He pointed out the significance of linking these strategic projects with ports and border crossings, like the Shehen and Wadi'a outlets, which would positively impact the humanitarian situation and enhance investment and development opportunities.

For his part, the World Bank official affirmed the bank's commitment to supporting the Yemeni government in its reconstruction and balanced development efforts, particularly in the transport sector, which is a priority at this stage.

He pledged to provide the necessary technical support for implementing the national strategy to develop transport sectors, contributing to improving the efficiency of the transport system and achieving sustainable development in Yemen.
