Chargé d'Affaires of the Yemen's Embassy in Sofia Ahmad Shammar discussed Wednesday with Rumen Petrov, the Head of the Middle East and Africa Department at the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance and develop them.

The two parties discussed developments in Yemen.

Ambassador Shammar highlighted the escalation of Houthi militias in the Red Sea, including the sinking of two ships in July, which resulted in the killing, injury, abduction and disappearance of crew members, as well as the evacuation of some.

He emphasized the importance of the international community taking responsibility for protecting maritime security and the comprehensive security of the Red Sea.

He also stressed the need to deter Iranian interventions and its ongoing violations of UN resolutions by supplying the militias with all means and tools of warfare, as well as its insistence on destroying the gains of the Yemeni people, exacerbating their humanitarian and economic suffering, and destabilizing Yemen and the region.

For his part, the Head of the Middle East and Africa Department at the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed his country's support for peace efforts and the importance of respecting international legitimacy decisions.
