Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Breik chaired Tuesday a Cabinet meeting dedicated to discussing updates on economic and service conditions, and coordinated plans with the Central Bank of Yemen to address the decline in the national currency's exchange rate and the deterioration of basic services.

The Cabinet reviewed military, security, and political developments, as well as ongoing government measures to address the accumulated challenges posed by the Houthi coup and the systematic economic war waged by the terrorist militias against the Yemeni people and state institutions.

Several agenda items were also discussed, with appropriate decisions made.

At the beginning of the session, the Prime Minister provided a comprehensive briefing to the council members on the ongoing efforts and consultations in coordination with the Presidential Leadership Council, as well as with brothers and international partners to support the government’s efforts in various areas.

He affirmed that the government is committed to implementing its plans to realistically address urgent priorities affecting the lives and livelihoods of citizens and to execute the economic recovery plan, despite the complexities of the current situation and the hostile approach of the terrorist Houthi militias in using the economy as a weapon to deepen the humanitarian disaster for the Yemeni people. He reiterated that the state and government will confront this economic war by all available means, in cooperation with their partners inside and outside the country.

The Prime Minister directed ministries, institutions, and government agencies to enhance performance and fulfill their responsibilities in line with the nature of the phase, transitioning from a reactive to a proactive approach. He called for adopting efficient, flexible, and disciplined work mechanisms that respond to citizens' aspirations and the challenges of reality.

He also emphasized the necessity of improving coordination and performance integration among various ministries, government entities, and local authorities to achieve optimal resource utilization, implement measures aimed at alleviating the living burdens on citizens, enhance public resources, diversify income sources, improve institutional performance efficiency, and combat corruption at all levels, in addition to activating oversight and accountability tools and enhancing transparency.

The Cabinet discussed several proposals to follow up on the implementation of international sanctions to classify the Houthi group as a terrorist organization, in accordance with directives issued by His Excellency the President of the Presidential Leadership Council during the joint meeting with the government, as well as international efforts to expose their terrorist practices that threaten international peace and security and piracy in the Red Sea.

The Cabinet affirmed the importance of the international community's alignment with the decision to classify the Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization and to take practical measures to isolate them as an armed entity outside the law and international legitimacy.

It reiterated the government’s commitment to taking practical measures to ensure that the designation of the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization does not affect commercial activities and the national private sector, nor impede the smooth flow of food and goods necessary for the livelihoods of citizens in areas under the control of the terrorist militia.

The Cabinet also called on the Security Council and the international community to take a firm stance regarding the ongoing Iranian regime's smuggling of advanced weapons to the Houthi terrorist militias, the latest of which involved the thwarting of the smuggling of 750 tons of missile systems, air defense, modern radars, drones, and more, in blatant violation of international laws and relevant Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen, especially those regarding the arms embargo on the militia. It highlighted the role of the National Resistance Forces on the western coast in intercepting this shipment, as well as the efforts of military and security agencies in thwarting several arms and drug smuggling operations.

The Cabinet approved several coordinated measures to implement the commitments of the Yemeni party based on the results of the discussions of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council with Russia, noting the outcomes of the visit in advancing the historical and deepening cooperation between the two friendly countries and peoples.

The Cabinet also approved the amendment of Article 39 of the Prime Minister's Decision No. 296 of 2006 regarding the executive regulations of Law No. 2 of 2006 concerning the regulation of fishing and exploitation of aquatic organisms and their protection and amendments, based on the presentation submitted by the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, with the understanding that the comments on the proposed amendment will be incorporated.
