Yemen's Central Bank Governor, Ahmed Ghaleb, met with a World Bank delegation led by the Regional Director for Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti, Stefan Goembrant, in Aden to discuss preparations for implementing a payment systems project.
The project, recently approved by the World Bank's Board of Directors, aims to strengthen and modernize Yemen's financial and banking sector. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current economic and financial situation in Yemen, including the impact of halted oil exports and reduced official and humanitarian aid.
The Central Bank Governor and the World Bank delegation also explored the bank's role in mitigating the effects of economic difficulties through various development and humanitarian interventions. They discussed the World Bank's plans and programs for Yemen, focusing on development, services, and financial sectors.
