ADEN - SABA
The Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, along with a delegation from the World Bank headed by the Regional Director for Yemen, Egypt and Djibouti Stefan Gembert, and the Country Director for the WB in Yemen Dunya Abu Ghaida, reviewed Sunday the progress of the Water Pumping Station project in the Al Barzakh area of Khormaksar district in Aden.
During the visit, Minister al-Sharjabi and the delegation listened to a detailed explanation from the General Director of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in Aden Engineer Mohammed Bakhebeira about the project costing $1,765,000, funded by the World Bank and implemented under the supervision of the Urban Water and Sanitation Project of the Ministry of Water and Environment.
The project includes the establishment of a comprehensive water pumping station, which involves digging cable trenches, laying pipe routes, and executing specialized electrical works, in addition to supplying and installing eight horizontal pumps with flow rates of 230 liters/second and 100 liters/second, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the water network and improving its operational efficiency.
Minister al-Sharjabi emphasized the importance of World Bank-funded projects in developing the water and sanitation sectors and enhancing the sustainability of essential services provided to citizens amid the current situation in the country.
He praised the deep partnership between the Yemeni government and the World Bank as an active partner in supporting development efforts, especially in the water sector.
For his part, the General Director of the Water and Sanitation Corporation in Aden pointed out that the project represents a qualitative addition that will contribute to improving the process of water distribution and direct pumping into existing systems.
He clarified that the new station will operate in rotation with the old station, alleviating the burden on it and improving the quality and efficiency of the services provided.
Meanwhile, the World Bank delegation reiterated its commitment to continue supporting such vital projects that contribute to raising the level of basic services provided to citizens in the water sector and meeting developmental needs.
