Yemen health authorities, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, has launched an emergency polio vaccination campaign targeting children under the age of five across several governorates, including Marib, Taiz, Socotra, Shabwa, and Hodeidah.
The Marib Governorate launched an emergency polio vaccination campaign today, targeting children under the age of five in all districts of the governorate. The campaign, which will run for three days, aims to immunize 110,000 children against the poliovirus.
The Deputy Governor of Marib, Ali Al-Fatami, inaugurated the campaign, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between local authorities and health workers to ensure the success of the initiative.
He urged parents to vaccinate their children during the campaign, highlighting the crucial role of immunization in protecting children from the disease.
The campaign will be implemented by 951 health workers and supervisors, divided into 383 mobile teams and 45 fixed teams in health facilities. Additionally, 450 volunteers will conduct awareness-raising activities to educate communities about the importance of vaccination and the safety of vaccines.
The Marib health authorities have emphasized the need for concerted efforts to achieve the campaign's objectives and ensure that all targeted children are vaccinated.
