The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has strongly condemned the resumption of Houthi attacks on civilian vessels transiting the Red Sea, particularly the attacks that occurred between July 6-8, 2025.
The attacks resulted in the sinking of two ships, the MV Magic Seas and the MV Eternity C, with at least four crew members killed, several others injured, and 15 reported missing.
Guterres expressed deep concern over the reports of missing crew members and called on the Houthis not to impede ongoing search and rescue operations.
He emphasized that these attacks not only endanger the safety and security of seafarers but also violate freedom of navigation, disrupt maritime transport, and pose serious environmental, economic, and humanitarian risks.
