Al-Arada discusses developments in Yemen with U.S. Chargé d'Affaires
[01/07/2025 06:26]

RIYADH – SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Major General Sultan al-Arada discussed Tuesday with the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires to Yemen Jonathan Pechya latest developments in the political, economic and humanitarian situations in Yemen.

The meeting addressed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries, as well as discussions on humanitarian and economic updates, and the role of the government in achieving economic stability and improving service levels.

During the meeting, Major General Al-Arada emphasized that achieving peace in Yemen requires real solutions and fundamental remedies, through adherence to the agreed-upon political solution references locally, regionally and internationally, which ensures the end of the crisis and addresses its political, economic, social and humanitarian repercussions, thereby achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace that the Yemenis seek, and fulfilling their aspirations to end the coup and restore state institutions.

He stressed the necessity for the international community to take a clear, firm and unified stance against the Iranian-backed Houthi militia's intransigence, their disregard for all regional and international initiatives, as well as their continued violations and aggressive behaviors that threaten peace opportunities, undermine all UN and international efforts and initiatives, prolong the conflict, and exacerbate the suffering of Yemenis.

Major General al-Arada also addressed the repercussions of the economic crisis, which pose a significant challenge to the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in achieving stability, amid declining state revenues due to the halt of oil exports following the Houthi militia's targeting of ports and oil facilities, which has increased financial burdens and worsened the economic crisis, negatively impacting various sectors.

In this context, he called on friends in the United States and all regional and international partners to support the government's efforts and enhance the capabilities of its financial and service institutions, enabling them to fulfill their role in providing basic services to citizens, improving their humanitarian and living conditions, and mitigating the consequences of the crisis caused by the Houthi militia on the Yemeni people.

The member of the council praised the supportive role of the U.S. towards the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in various fields, especially in the political and humanitarian domains, affirming the importance of continuing this support, particularly in the current phase that requires unifying international efforts to assist the Yemeni people, end their suffering and actively contribute to achieving security and stability in Yemen and the region.

For his part, the U.S. diplomat renewed his country's support for the Presidential Leadership Council and its commitment to restoring security and stability to Yemen, pointing out the international consensus on the necessity of ending humanitarian suffering and building a safe and stable future for Yemen.
