RIYADH – SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, General Aidarus al-Zubaidi, received the French Ambassador to Yemen Catherine Corm-Kammoun on Sunday.
The meeting addressed several political, economic, and humanitarian issues in Yemen, primarily focusing on the worsening economic crisis the country is facing due to the ongoing halt of oil and gas exports, caused by terrorist attacks launched by the Houthi militia on export ports in Hadramaut and Shabwa.
This has resulted in a decline in public revenues and deteriorating living conditions for citizens.
In this context, General al-Zubaidi emphasized the need for international efforts to support the government and the Presidential Leadership Council, which would contribute to revitalizing vital economic sectors, particularly the oil and gas sectors, ensuring the security of export ports, and protecting them from Houthi targeting.
The meeting also discussed updates on the political process and efforts to advance a comprehensive peace process.
Al-Zubaidi reiterated that engaging in political negotiations with a militia classified internationally as a terrorist group, which poses a real threat to the security and stability of the region and the world, is not feasible.
Additionally, the meeting, attended by Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, Chairman of the Consultative and Reconciliation Authority supporting the Council, and Dr. Nasser Al-Khubaji, a member of the authority, touched upon development and humanitarian projects funded by France through the European Union and UN organizations, highlighting the active role Paris plays in supporting stability and reconstruction efforts in liberated areas.
General al-Zubaidi expressed his hope to expand French support, especially in the fields of energy, education, health, and empowering women and youth.
For her part, the French ambassador reaffirmed her country’s steadfast position in supporting international efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen and its commitment to continuing support for humanitarian and development projects in various regions, in coordination with the government and the Presidential Leadership Council.
She noted that France is aware of the challenges facing Yemen and will continue its efforts to assist the Yemeni people and alleviate their suffering.
