ISTANBUL - SABA
The Republic of Yemen participated Saturday in the Global Connectivity Forum on Transport 2025, held here with a delegation led by Captain Ali Al-Sabhi, Deputy Minister of Transport for Maritime Affairs and Ports.
In his speech at the forum, the Deputy Minister of Transport stated: "Discussing Yemen in the context of regional and global transport corridors is not just a theoretical ambition but a strategic necessity, stemming from its unique geographical position on the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea and its historical legacy as a link between East and West, overseeing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the most important waterways in the world through which between 12 to 15 percent of global trade passes."
Yemen faces maritime security challenges due to terrorist attacks on ships by Houthi militias and arms smuggling, which threaten navigational security and the marine environment, he said.
He explained that the government has addressed these challenges by forming a crisis cell and collaborating with the Arab coalition and friendly countries, alongside adhering to the Djibouti Code of Conduct and the Jeddah Amendments to enhance maritime security in the region.
He affirmed that Yemen seeks to improve the efficiency of regional and international transport corridors by developing a comprehensive national strategy for transport and logistics services.
