NEW YORK – SABA
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has renewed his call for the immediate release of humanitarian and diplomatic staff detained by the Houthi militia.
Guterres emphasized that the continued arbitrary detention of these individuals is a gross injustice, particularly given their dedication to providing life-saving assistance and support to the Yemeni people.
"This June marks one year since the arbitrary detention of dozens of personnel from the United Nations (UN), national and international NGOs, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions" by the Houthis," he said in a statement.
"I renew my call for their immediate and unconditional release, including those held since 2021 and 2023, and most recently this January."
