ABU-DHABI - SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Abdul-Rahman al-Mahrami emphasized the pivotal role of the United States in supporting legitimacy and enhancing Yemen's capabilities to face security and economic challenges and to confront the terrorist threats posed by the Iranian regime-backed Houthi militias.

He voiced his comment during his conversations today, Tuesday, via video conferencing with the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen Steven Fagin.

They conferred over bilateral relations, security and military cooperation, counter-terrorism, coast guard operations, securing international maritime passages, and deterring Houthi terrorist attacks on shipping lanes and commercial vessels.

The developments in the Yemeni and regional arenas, economic and humanitarian challenges and the ongoing efforts to support the comprehensive reforms program were also touched on.

Al-Mahrami highlighted Yemen's need for greater international support—especially from the United States—in the economic and developmental fields in order to improve the national currency exchange rate and support the government's urgent priorities in the basic service, alleviating the suffering of citizens amid the exceptional circumstances the country is facing.

He deeply appreciated the steadfast American positions in support of the PLC and the government, highly praising Washington's commitment to protecting regional security, drying up sources of funding for terrorism and banning Iranian arms smuggled to the Houthi militia.

The American ambassador reiterated his country's firm and supportive position towards Yemen and its security and stability.

Fagin stated that his administration is committed to keep on working together with the PLC and the government to confront current challenges, succeed in peace efforts and enhance security and stability in Yemen and the region.
