On Thursday, Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Breik received the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Bedaiwi.
The meeting discussed the prospects and areas of strategic partnership between Yemen and the GCC, as well as priorities for support that align with the current exceptional phase, particularly in economic and service sectors.
The role the Council can play in leading Gulf efforts to direct support according to the government's urgent priorities was also emphasized, along with the continuation of active and positive support for the Yemeni people during the current and future periods.
The Prime Minister and the Secretary-General exchanged views on the latest developments at local, regional and international levels, as well as their shared positions regarding these issues, including ongoing efforts to restore the state end the Iranian-backed Houthi coup, and secure international navigation.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Secretary-General for the congratulations and for reaffirming the steadfast positions of the GCC countries in supporting the Yemeni government and people.
He emphasized the need for exceptional efforts to overcome current challenges, highlighting the pivotal role of the GCC in rallying support for the Yemeni government to meet its urgent commitments and priorities, which focus on halting economic and service deterioration, alleviating citizen suffering, addressing urgent needs, and restoring economic recovery, in addition to activating state institutions to fulfill their roles and duties.
The Prime Minister praised the support of the GCC for the government and its efforts to address current developments in light of recent changes across various fronts, and the importance of reorganizing cooperation files according to pressing priorities.
He pointed out to the challenges posed by the halt of crude oil exports due to Houthi terrorist attacks and the government's plans to address them, as well as the support needed from the brotherly GCC countries and Yemen's development partners to overcome these challenges.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council reiterated the Council's solidarity with the Yemeni people in all circumstances, ensuring Yemen can regain its security and stability and place itself on a path of sustainable development that guarantees the Yemeni people a life of dignity, peace, and safety.
He also reaffirmed the GCC's support for the efforts made by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to enhance security and stability in the country, as well as the GCC's commitment to support all international and regional efforts, including those of the United Nations, to achieve a comprehensive political solution that ends the Yemeni crisis, in accordance with the three references.
