British Ambassador confirms London commitment to support basic services, Yemeni Coast Guard

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom UK) to the Republic of Yemen Abda Sharif restated that her country is committed to support Yemen in the areas of health, good governance, security and to improve the people living conditions all over the country.

In a press release learned by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) at the end of her visit to the temporary capital Aden she said" The UK supports more than 700 health facilities across Yemen by providing life-saving medicines, vaccines, and nutritional supplements, contributing to the treatment of more than 700,000 children."

She added " The UK is offering cash grants to help provide food for approximately 850,000 people, besides British aid in urgent technical expertise and institutional support for the Yemeni government, including in the electricity and finance sectors".

Sharif noted that during her visit to the temporary capital, Aden, she inspected several humanitarian and developmental projects funded by the United Kingdom in various parts of Yemen, as well as visited a health clinic supported by British aid and a camp for the displaced.

She stated that responding to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen has been a priority for the UK, which is committed to continuing to provide humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of millions of Yemenis.

The British Ambassador reported that her country has allocated more than £1.5 billion since 2015 to help mitigating the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. It also provided £144 million in humanitarian aid last year.

She indicated that London will continue to support the Yemeni Coast Guard by providing new and refurbished vessels, communication equipment and solar power systems.

Sharif added that the "Yemeni Maritime Security Partnership" initiative, which is implemented through the Yemeni Coast Guard with British support, contributes to coordinating efforts to enhance maritime security and safety in the future.
