The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Salem al-Soqatri discussed Tuesday with Dr. Qu Dongyu, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the conference supporting the Plant Health Strategy in the Near East and North Africa, took place in Bari, Italy.
It addressed the efforts for joint coordination between the two parties to maximize the benefits from the opportunities available to support the Plant Health Strategy.
Minister al-Soqatri praised the organization's efforts in Yemen, highlighting the compounded shocks the country faces due to the ongoing war waged by Houthi terrorist militias, as well as the impacts of climate change.
He presented the key features of the national strategy aimed at enhancing the roles of the agricultural and fisheries sectors in improving food security, emphasizing the importance of capacity building through training programs and equipping specialized centers with testing and monitoring equipment.
For his part, the FAO Director-General reaffirmed the organization’s continued support for Yemen, particularly regarding agricultural and veterinary quarantine centers to ensure they fulfill their roles effectively.
