Marib Protest Demands Immediate Release of Kidnapped Journalists
[03/05/2025 05:45]
MARIB-SABA
A gathering of media professionals in Marib Governorate has called on the international community and human rights organizations to pressure the Houthi militia to immediately and unconditionally release kidnapped journalists and reveal the fate of those forcibly disappeared, some for over a decade.

The protest, organized by the Yemeni Journalists' Organization "Sada," coincided with World Press Freedom Day.

A statement issued during the protest highlighted the dire situation of journalists in Yemen, who have faced repression, violence, and restricted freedoms for nearly a decade.

The organization documented the killing of 65 journalists and media professionals between 2015 and 2025, including the recent targeting of filmmaker Musab Al-Hatami by the Houthi militia in Marib.

The protesters demanded an end to repression and violations against journalists, the release of all detained and forcibly disappeared journalists, and the protection of media institutions.

They also called for support for initiatives to protect and train journalists, and for building a comprehensive strategy to prevent impunity for crimes against journalists.
