The Yemeni Journalists' Union has documented 2014 violations against journalists across various governorates over the past decade, with the Houthi militia topping the list of perpetrators.
The union held a press conference in Taiz, in collaboration with the International Federation of Journalists, to highlight the state of press freedom on World Press Freedom Day.
According to the union's report, the violations include 482 cases of detention, abduction, arrest, and pursuit; 244 assaults on journalists, media outlets, and their properties; 223 cases of threats and incitement against journalists; 212 cases of website blocking; 175 cases of prosecution and interrogation; 125 cases of salary suspension; 74 cases of torture in detention centers; 72 cases of coverage bans; 55 attempted killings; 165 cases of media outlet shutdowns; 46 cases of journalist killings; and 79 cases of arbitrary dismissal and confiscation of work equipment.
